For those unfamiliar with Happy Wheels, let us explain: this is a brutal arcade in which you need to get from point A to point B alive. Among the characters there is an old man in a wheelchair, a full woman with a shopping cart from a supermarket, father and son riding a duo bicycle and other, no less impressive personas. The story as such is absent and you are free to invent any background for the chosen character. But, most importantly, you need to get them to the end of the level safely controlling their ride down a fairly hazardous scene filled with all kinds of obstacles and even sometimes including hot pursuit to speed up the action.
Having fun and getting crashed
Obstacles encountered on the way to the finish line are usually deadly. Thorns, objects falling from above, descending platforms, even crossbows automatically shooting at the approach of your character – all this can easily cripple the racer which will inevitably complicate your trip let alone even kill them. The fact is that the hero’s body is divided into several parts which can be lost if the injury is strong enough. If they fall from a height, most often it will result in a broken leg which will automatically prevent them from jumping. But regardless of how many limbs your character loses in the process, they can make it to the finish if they can still drive or at least walk. Sometimes a hero’s vehicle collapses for one reason or another. Then you can try to reach the end of the level on foot – in that case you can not control individual limbs, but you need to press the buttons responsible for changing the hero’s pose. If necessary, there is an opportunity to hold onto a surface with your hands – only then will you be able to bounce and move for long distances. But most often it’s much easier to start the level over.
Create your own levels
Some levels are too simple, some are complex and lengthy, but you can get through quickly, after which you can only replay them. Funny physics, which developers obviously tried to make realistic, sometimes leads to such spectacular situations and stunning deaths of the hero that you will certainly want to try to complete individual missions a few more times. However, it will still be more like trying to squeeze out the last juices from the game. Much of Happy Wheels success was achieved thanks to community-created levels. You, too, can try your hand at level design by using a built-in editor. Share your own creations with your friends by sending them your levels via email. See if they are capable of taking the challenge you are offering them! Perhaps levels generated by you will be so complicated that even you won’t be able to clear them at once!
Generally, Happy Wheels is a fun, albeit a bit bloody game. It combines a light-minded atmosphere, incredible physics and quite a lot of adrenaline ending up in a thrilling gameplay that you can’t get enough of. This game is perfect for having a nice relaxing evening after a stressful day while also tickling your nerves a little.
